Fluffernutters, massage, and creativity help students conquer end-of-semester stress
Want to know how a roomful of stressed-out students dealt with end-of-semester pressures, papers, and exams? If you dropped by the Elaine Marieb Center in mid-December, you’d have spotted Counselor Kathleen Keough leading students in the New Directions and Pathways programs in a relaxing and fragrant de-stressing exercise. After pouring dried rice into long colorful stockings, participants added lavender oil to create scented pillows to wrap around tired shoulders. (Tip: the stockings can be heated up in a microwave for an even warmer touch.) The group discussed techniques for stress management, while a massage therapist offered soothing rubs in an adjoining room. Stress-busting continued as students feasted on comfort food, including gooey fluffernutter sandwiches and tea…a perfect recipe for more joy and less tension.
