You can earn college credit for what you have learned on the job or from life experience through the College Level Examination Program (CLEP). These exams, which are offered on the HCC campus, test your knowledge of introductory college-level subjects.
CLEP is administered in partnership with ETS-CLEP. HCC provides credit for successful scores on CLEP exams in 30 subjects. Each exam is 90 minutes long and involves multiple-choice questions; the one exception is Apart the College Composition test.
There is a registration fee of $30. It is payable to HCC/CBPD by money order only. In addition, there is a fee of $77 for each CLEP exam. It is paid directly to ETS-CLEP by valid credit/debit card on the day of the test appointment at the testing center. The total cost is $107. CLEP exams are free to military personnel but the $30 registration fee still applies.
You will receive a score report immediately after completing your exam (except for College Composition, which takes 2-3 weeks). It then takes approximately 10-15 business days for CLEP to transfer your scores to the Registrar's Office.
CLEP exams are administered at HCC's Testing & Workforce Certification Center, located in the Kittredge Business Center, Room 204. They are offered M-F at 9:00 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. You can contact the Testing Center to arrange evening or Saturday test times.
Transportation to the HCC campus is available via PVTA buses. Parking is available in Lots D or E.
