A+dvancer is designed to address deficiencies in math and/or English on the Accuplacer College Placement Test. It is a self-paced computer program in which students work through math and/or English instructional modules. After achieving 80 percent mastery of the material, students may then retest on the relevant section(s) of the placement test.
CVTE students from the Consortium high schools who have enrolled at HCC and who did not meet the placement test cut scores to place into college-level courses may take advantage of the A+dvancer summer program.
Students who do not place into college-level courses after taking the placement test are required to take developmental courses. These courses do not count toward graduation requirements but must be paid for individually or with financial aid dollars and students might have to take up to five of these courses (two English and three math).
During July and August, students attend a six-week session at HCC. Morning or afternoon sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays are offered. Each session is held in a computer lab and is supervised by a lab monitor to assist students.
Participation in the A+dvancer Program is free of charge to CVTE students.
