HCC provides an opportunity to earn your high school equivalency certificate through the HiSET test. The tests are online, though a paper test option is available. Sample questions and practice tests are available to help you prepare. Test takers can also access career counseling and learn more about furthering their education.
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE) is in the process of changing from the GED test (used since 1946) to HiSET. DESE expects to have information on fees and requirements available around the first week of February, with testing to begin shortly after. Information will be posted here when it becomes available. General info on HiSET can be found at hiset.org
Your skills and knowledge are measured in five core areas that make up the five HiSET subtests:
First time testers can register for the HiSET test by attending one of HCC's walk-in group registration sessions. For those dates, contact the Testing Services Office at (413) 552-2292 or stop by the Kittredge Center, Room 307. The office is open M-F from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Because tests are scheduled on a space available basis, applicants who are not able to attend their chosen test dates will forfeit their fee and must reschedule in person.
Free parking is available in campus lots. There is also frequent bus service available to the HCC campus.
