REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and three to five year's experience teaching or assisting the learning of students in secondary or post-secondary education with special emphasis on the following student populations: learning disabled, second language learners, developmental education, low-income, first generation to college, adult learners, men of color. Also required: computer and technology skills; strong written interpersonal communication, and presentation skills; experience working with and educating diverse groups; ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in adult education, special education, reading, teaching, student personnel, or related field; experience evaluating educational programs and providing educational services to diverse student populations; experience with adaptive technology, computer aided learning programs; bilingual (English/Spanish); experience working with college faculty, students with disabilities, second language learners, adult basic education programs. STAFF ASSOCIATE GENERAL SUMMARY: The Staff Associate for the Center for Academic Program Support (CAPS) is responsible for coordinating efficient, timely, and effective academic support to students year round, during the day and evening. Specifically, this person coordinates tutorial services in the form of subject specific tutoring, academic coaching, and mentoring. Academic support is fashioned to student needs with specific emphasis on students in developmental education, students with disabilities, second language learners, adult learners, and other students in target and low retention populations. Conducts ongoing assessment of learning resources and services provided to students; and gathers data and coordinates assessment of learning outcomes and impact of academic support services. Supervision Received: Reports to the Director of Academic Support. Supervision Exercised: Supervises the work and performance of Learning Specialists, Professional Tutors, Peer Tutors, Supplemental Instructors, Mentors and Work Study students. Responsibilities: 1. Coordinates tutorial services appropriate to student needs with specific emphasis on students in developmental education, students with disabilities, second language learners, adult learners, and other students in target populations. Works with students enrolled in specific support programs on campus (Transition to Business, Nursing Success, New Directions, STRIVE, etc.) that serve target populations. 2. Coordinates seamless tutoring services for day and evening and throughout summer and winter sessions. 3. Coordinates one-on-one, learning coach, supplemental instruction and group tutoring, ESL tutoring, and mentoring sessions with peer and professional tutors, learning specialists, and mentors. 4. Coordinates the ALANA Men In Motion Program. 5. Plans, implements and oversees recruitment and selection of approximately 34 professional and 25 peer tutors, learning specialists and mentors. 6. Hires, trains, assigns, supervises and evaluates Learning Specialists, tutors and other staff for Math Center, Tutoring Center, Writing Center, and ESL Tutoring, as required. 7. Maintains membership with College Reading and Learning Association and continue required tutor training and documentation for ongoing tutor certification. 8. Coordinates activities such as end of semester appreciation/celebrations of peer and professional tutors, mentors and work-study. 9. Plans, implements, and/or facilitates workshops for students, tutors, teachers, and administrators. 10. Conducts on-going outreach to students: follow-up with students identified during educational planning as needed or interested in academic support services; follow up with students identified by the Early Alert System. 11. Interacts with various faculty, administrators, and institutions, on campus and off to develop resources/procedures and identify strategies for addressing and improving the learning/academic needs of students. (i.e. Attend meetings and consultations with other staff; working with students with disabilities, second language learners, and nontraditional students.) 12. Identifies and coordinates computer aided learning programs and assist and instruct students in PC's, software, adaptive technology and other educational materials. 13. Documents tutor/student contact and maintains ongoing database of services. 14. Conducts ongoing assessment of learning resources and services provided to students. Gathers data and coordinates assessment of learning outcomes and impact of academic support services. 15. Maintains professional knowledge and attends/presents at conferences in applicable areas. 16. Submits semester and annual reports. 17. Performs other duties as assigned.
