HOLYOKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Futures Inspired (www.hcc.edu) Posting #08058 MCCC, Part-Time Non-Benefited Professional Tutors DATE: April 18, 2008 POSITION: Upward Bound - Professional Tutors 2008 Summer Academy - June 23 through August 1, 2008 ( Holyoke Community College campus from June 23 to July 11 ( Amherst College campus from July 14 through August 1 SOURCE OF FUNDING: Grant RESPONSIBILITIES: The Upward Bound is a summer academic program that works with 9th-12th grade students from the Holyoke High and Dean Tech High Schools. We offer after school tutoring, mini-courses, field trips, and an intensive 6 week Summer Academy. Upward Bound Professional Tutors provide one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions to 9th and 12th grade students during our 2008 summer program. This is a six-week temporary intensive tutoring position with a program that serves young scholars from Holyoke in the following subjects: English, Math and Science for grade levels 9th - 12th. Tutors are required to attend a minimum of one tutor staff meeting to address issues such as program planning, individual supervision, and student issues. Tutors will supervise study halls. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree plus 1-2 years teaching/tutoring experience. Candidate must have demonstrated proficiency in subject area to be taught, excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally diverse student population. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Massachusetts Teachers Certification; experience with college residential environments; experience with culturally diverse student populations. NOTE: Selected candidates will be required to submit to CORI/SORI check. STARTING DATE: June 19, 2008 COMPENSATION: $21.78/hour HOURS: 4 hours x day x 6 weeks DEADLINE: May 15, 2008.
