Holyoke Community College’s mission is to serve
the Pioneer Valley by providing comprehensive, high-quality educational
opportunities that are responsive to community needs and meet the
intellectual, esthetic, and practical needs of a diverse student body.
Serving an economically, educationally and linguistically diverse
population, the College has a special commitment to public school
partnerships and adult literacy. Holyoke Community College is the
site for vital educational opportunity programs including an Upward
Bound Program, a Massachusetts Educational Opportunity Program, and
the regional center for a System for Adult Basic Education Support
for Western Massachusetts.
HCC’s Strategic Priorities
- Build a cohesive, intentional first year experience for students
new to HCC, based on Foundations of Excellence recommendations.
- Strengthen academic quality through increased professional development
and adequate library and information technology resources.
- Hire at least 5 additional full-time faculty in FY09; research
and develop a comprehensive 5-year instructional staffing plan;
and increase the number of full-time permanent staff positions
in areas that support college priorities and meet enrollment growth.
- Create an aggressive strategy to recruit and retain a diverse
population of faculty and staff.
- Support transition to College initiatives in response to educational
and workforce development needs throughout the City of Holyoke
and the region.
- Develop a comprehensive plan for the campus to achieve environmental
sustainability and increase student awareness of global and environmental
issues.
- Develop processes that improve communication and participation
in decision-making by all segments of the campus community.
