| Professor
Ismet Ozkilic, PhD, English Department
Degree and from
where it was received:
Ph.D. / University of Massachusetts - Amherst
Courses you teach:
Reading Efficiency, Fundamentals of Writing, Introduction to Language
and Literature I & II, British Literature II, Modern Poetry,
and theme-based LC courses.
Accomplishments
(personal or professional):
I am blessed to have been serving the Pioneer Valley as a translator
and interpreter in medical and judicial settings for nearly a decade.
Favorite thing
about teaching:
The gift and privilege of touching lives and making a difference
'one student at a time.'
Memorable moment
at HCC:
The most touching and memorable moment yet was a former student
to approach me at the end of a developmental reading and writing
course, and tell me that she wanted to change her major from pre-nursing
to English because she felt inspired to read and write more, and
perhaps one day look into a career in teaching, and hopefully develop
a similar rapport with her own students.
Teaching philosophy:
Teachers serve students best by guiding them with genuine individualized
attention. Being their mentor means that I continue to guide them
beyond the classroom; that's what I choose to do, and what ultimately
drives me as a teacher.
