Holyoke Community College will be closed on Wednesday, November 26th due to inclement weather. There will be no day or evening classes. The college will re-open on Monday, December 1st.

Kids & Clay (ages 7-11)
July 7-11
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
It's fun playing with clay-especially when it's OK to get messy! Students will be introduced to pinch, coil, slab and slump molding techniques as well as exposure to wheel throwing. We'll also explore various clay types such as low fire earthenware, colorful glazes and no-fire polymer clay.

Youth Drama/Performance Program & Trip to Broadway (ages 10-14)
July 12 - August 16
9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Participating in a performance is one of the most rewarding (and memorable) experiences a young person can have. Your child's future can be greatly impacted with self-discovery and awareness while becoming comfortable in speaking in front of groups. Youth will learn basic performance skills, play confidence-building theater exercises, as well as participating in every stage of the theater production and learning dialogue and blocking for our performance as well. Accurate communication and team work are stressed in this comprehensive program which includes a history of theatre, an audition process, the casting process, rehearsals and set & costume design and discussions. In the 6th class, we will have a performance for parents and guests. Program cultimates in a full day (12 hours+) trip to see an age appropriate, live show! (matinée the following week TBD for participants only - cost of ticket and transportation is included in tuition). More information will be available when you are registered for the program.

FUNdamentals of Jewelry Making (ages 12-17)
July 28 - August 1
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
For the creative spirit who wants to work in precious metal! Learn about the tools and various metals that craftspeople use in this art form. We'll cover essential techniques needed for making jewelry such as sanding, sawing, filing, forming, & texturing. You'll create bracelets, rings, & pendants. Materials fee of $30 due at the first class meeting.

Multi-Media Arts Exploration (ages 8-12)
August 4-8
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
An incredible opportunity to explore a wide variety of art media, including water color paint, acrylic, handmade paper, print making, tie-dyeing, sculpting and drawing while learning new skills such as wax resist techniques and their creative expression. Art students will be able to take advantage of the college's natural surroundings by learning observational drawing in nature techniques. Materials fee of $25 due at the first class meeting.

HCC Summer Stage (ages 11-17)

An exciting week-long trip into the world of acting in theatre. In one week, we'll play creative theatre games, learn improvisation, and act out a final scene or short one-act play. Instructor: Tom Geha

Summer Art Retreat (ages 13-17)
August 11-15
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
An exciting opportunity for youth to enter the art world and create in the college's art studios. They'll discover the process of plaster casting in mask-making, and explore the possibilities of 3-dimensional canvas painting, printmaking, and drawing from life, nature, and imagination. Works on paper will include watercolor and pen & ink. This retreat will expand technique and art skills, while encouraging personal perspective, style and individual expression! Materials fee of $25 due at the first class meeting.

American Sign Language & Deaf Culture (ages 12-16)
August 11-15
9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Learn the basics of ASL (American Sign Language) such as Finger Spelling, vocabulary related to surroundings, Mime Story, and more. With an introduction to Deaf Culture, learn how the Deaf World experiences what is around them though a full week of immersion.
