HCC Celebrity Read Posters of 2007

The Ark by Margot Benary-Isbert

I discovered this book in my 6th grade library. It's about hope despite despair, generosity despite want, and the creation of family despite the divisions of war. This book fills my soul, and its characters feel like friends.

Vivian Ostrowski, Student Activities

The Second Chair by John Lescroart

I love reading and enjoy the work of Lescroart because he illustrates in words what we, as criminal justice professionals, live.

Monica Perez, Dept. Chair of Criminal Justice

El Principito by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
       also avaiable in English

I love this book, I read it when I was around 16 or 17 years old and it left an intimate and profound mark that is deeply rooted.

There is a part in the book that I like where the fox says to the Little Prince: "It's only with one heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye".
(Spanish) "No se vé bien sino con el corazón. Lo esencial es invisible a los ojos"

Gladys Montero, ESL Program Assistant

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

I like to read this book at least once a year around Christmas time.

I really like the way this story is written. It’s a timely story of greed and avarice, and how it affects the life of the central character. But it also shows how goodness, love and forgiveness can overcome one's outlook on life, and how that affects the lives of others around you.

John Gauger, Groundskeeper

A Director Prepares by Anne Bogart

This book offers extraordinary insight into the creative act! It emphasizes the need to allow time and space for performing artists to thoughtfully engage in the artistic process. Anne Bogart shares her unique understanding, experience and inspiration which continues to have a profound impact on my own life and work in the theatre arts.

Sheryl Stoodley, Theater Professor

The Art Of War by Sun Tzu

Joe Tolisano, CIO, Information Technology Division

MotorTrend Magazine (available online with your library barcode)

I like this periodical because being an absolute car junkie, I can get up to date news on new releases, concept cars, recalls, road and reliability tests and of course, full page images of the latest in vehicle design and technology!

Arvard Lingham, Business & Community Services
