The SimUcenter at HCC is an 1,150 square foot mid- and high-fidelity simulation lab. The mid fidelity area consists of two double bed patient rooms with four vital sims. The high fiedlity portion contains two patient rooms, one adult and one pediatric. Both are fully functioning acute care hospital rooms. The Simucenter houses two SimMan® adult simulators, one NOELLE® birthing simulator, two Newborn HAL® simulators and one Pediatric 5 year old HAL®.
The mission of the Holyoke Community College SimUcenter is to support nursing education through the use of clinical simulation. The center provides realistic, risk free, hands-on, clinical learning experiences using current technology and medical equipment, and human patient simulators. The simulation experience promotes greater competency in the nursing students and enhances their critical thinking.
The center also promotes health career awareness education for students in the community by engaging them in realistic clinical scenarios and allowing them to practice technical skills with real equipment and supplies on a human patient simulator. In this way, students can make informed career choices.
