Foundations of Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care/Services



PREREQUISITES: Prerequisites: ENG 101 eligibility

This course will introduce students to core concepts related to trauma through a developmental and multi-cultural lens. The focus of this course will be on examining effects of crises, disaster, and other trauma-causing events. Students will gain a basic understanding of the neurological processes and changes that occur during and after a traumatic event as well as during the recovery process. Important concepts such as trauma-related symptoms, the impact of trauma on families and communities, resilience, post-traumatic growth, retraumatization/ vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, self-care, and approaching professional work through a trauma-informed lens will be emphasized. Attention will be placed on assisting students in applying their growing knowledge of trauma to their developing professional roles. Prerequisites: ENG 101 eligibility
