Elizabeth Roman strikes a pose

Elizabeth Roman

Hometown: Springfield, Mass.

Major: Liberal Arts, 2004

Title: Reporter

Roman is a 2004 graduate of Holyoke Community College and currently a reporter for The Republican, www.MassLive.com and El Pueblo Latino.

Born and raised in Springfield, she chose to attend Holyoke Community College because she didn't have a clear career path in mind.

"At HCC I discovered my love of writing and journalism, thanks in part to the wonderful teaching of my professor and former Republican reporter Tom Shea," Roman said.

Shea helped her obtain an internship at the paper, which eventually led to a full-time job.

After attending HCC, Roman went on to receive a bachelor's degree in English at the University of Massachusetts. She has been employed with The Republican for nearly 10 years and covers everything from human interest features to crime, politics, education and municipal government.

As the only Spanish-speaking reporter at The Republican, Roman, who is Puerto Rican, also works for the company's Spanish-language weekly newspaper, El Pueblo Latino.

A native of Springfield, Roman still lives in the city with her husband Rene and their awesome cat Jean-Luc.
