Snow Closing
Holyoke Community College will be closed on Wednesday, November 26th due to inclement weather. There will be no day or evening classes. The college will re-open on Monday, December 1st.

New to HCC

Please welcome these new full-time members of the HCC community . . .

Fall 2014

Jeremy Jungbluth, literacy specialist (English as a Second or Other Language). Jeremy grew up in Brockport, N.Y., and now lives in Easthampton. He holds a bachelor's degree in English from the State University of New York Brockport, a master's in education from the University of Illinois and a certificate of advanced graduate studies in bilingual, ESL and multicultural education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has taught ESL and ESOL classes at Saint Augustine College, the Center for New Americans, UMass and MCPHS University as well as HCC. 

Judith A. Loughrey, instructor of Nursing. Judith earned her bachelor's in nursing from Elms College and her master's in nursing from George Mason University. She has worked as a registered nurse in the young adult unit at Fairfox Hospital in Virginia and in the operating room at Holyoke Hospital. She has also taught nursing at Elms College and at Baystate Medical Center's School of Nursing. Most recently she worked as a school nurse in South Hadley, where she has lived since she was 15. 

Michele Cabral, instructor of Accounting. Michele is a West Springfield, Mass., native and comes to HCC after working for several years as an adjunct professor at Bay Path, Elms and Springfield colleges and for many years as a certified public accountant. "I love working with people and figuring out solutions to complex issues," she says.

Sheila M. Gould, instructor of Education. Sheila earned her masters in early childhood education from American International College in 2013 and has been working as a preschool teacher and childcare provider since 2006. She lives in Chicopee now but still considers her home Holyoke, where she was born and raised. She loves painting and collects four-leaf clovers. "I have a knack for finding them wherever I go," she says. "I have saved over 200 of them in a book."

Jessica I. Hill, assistant professor of Economics. An Alabama native, Jessica earned a PhD in applied economics from Louisiana State University as well as a master's degree in economics and a bachelor's degree in animal science from Auburn University. She comes to HCC after teaching undergraduate courses in economics, sales and marketing at the University of Tennessee.

Armando J. Pardave, instructor of Engineering. Armando is a native of Peru and named after the famous Argentine soccer player Diego Armando Maradona. He earned his master's degree in electrical engineering at the University of Hartford and holds a bachelor's degree in engineering from Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute and an associate degree from Springfield Technical Community College. He has worked as a tutor and a math mini-prep instructor at HCC since 2009 and also taught math as an adjunct professor at STCC.

Emily F. Rabinsky, assistant professor of biology. A Chicopee native, Emily returns to western Massachusetts after spending the last nine years in Michigan, where she earned a PhD in pharmaceutical science and a graduate teacher certificate at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Tufts University and has taught biology, pharmacokinetics and biopharmaceutics and microbiology at Henry Ford Community College, the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University, respectively.

Nicholas J. Schwab, instructor of Math. Nic, as he prefers to be called, grew up in California, where he received his bachelor's degree in math at the University of California in Santa Cruz before moving to the East Coast to attend graduate school at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. He taught precalculus and algebra to undergraduates at Appalachian State and worked as a high school math teacher at The Putney School in Vermont and The Pennington School in New Jersey.

Rebecca Targove, instructor of Math. A Massachusetts native -- she grew up in Sudbury -- Rebecca earned her bachelor's degree in math at Western New England University in Springfield, before heading to Minnesota for her master's in math and statistics at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she also taught courses in calculus and statistics.

Spring 2014

 

Devon Marie Henrichon, biology lab technician II. Devon earned her associate degree in 2005 from HCC in biotechnology before continuing on to the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where she received her bachelor's degree in biology in 2012. She is a lifelong resident of Belchertown and formerly worked as a laboratory technician and pharmaceutical manufacturing technician at Microtest Laboratories in Agawam.

Javier Jimenez, maintainer II. Javier, who goes by "Javy," grew up in Ware, where he still lives. He comes to HCC after working as a foreman for DTZ UGL Services, which provides cleaning services at the Holyoke Mall at Ingleside.

Michael Edward Kobjack, computer lab manager. Michael is a graduate of HCC who earned his associate degree in human resource management. He previously worked at HCC as an information technology service technician and holds training certificates in manufacturing systems, robotic systems and management. Born and raised in the Bronx, Michael now lives in Ludlow and is an avid bicyclist and kayaker.

Olivia L. Kynard, bursar. Olivia comes to HCC from Springfield College, where she had worked as the bursar since 2007. Before that, she was the student accounts manager at Hampshire College. A lifelong resident of Springfield, Olivia received both a bachelor's degree (2004, criminal justice) and master's degree (2007, organizational management and leadership) from the Springfield College School of Human Services.

Nelson Lopez, accountant I. Nelson, who lives in Holyoke, received his associate degree from HCC in business administration in 2004 and moves into the Bursar's Office after working since 2010 as an accountant in Student Accounts. 

Lindsey Rothschild, coordinator of Instructional Design. Lindsey grew up in Michigan and lived in New York City before moving to Easthampton in 2009. Before her new position, she had worked as an ESL teacher at HCC since 2009. She holds a master's degrees in educational technology from Marlboro College Graduate School in Brattleboro, Vt., a master of arts degree from Hunter College in New York in teaching English to speakers of other languages, and a bachelor of arts degree in American public affairs from James Madison College at Michigan State University.

Debra A.
Roy, library assistant. Debra is an alum who earned her associate degree at HCC before obtaining her bachelor's degree in business management at Westfield State University. A Springfield native, she now lives in Southwick and comes to HCC after working for seven years as a library assistant at the Granby Public Library, in Granby, Conn.

William "Ron" Bailey, director of Public Safety. Before coming to HCC, Ron worked as a police officer in Bridgeport, Conn., for more than 30 years. He holds a bachelor's degree from Springfield College in Human Services and is working on his master's in Public Administration at the University of New Haven.  A 3rd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do, Ron also plays drums and sings in a band.

Robbin Kotajarvi, literacy specialist. Robbin grew up in Michigan and earned a bachelor's degree in English from Western Michigan University and a master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Michigan State University. She has worked as an ESL instructor ssince 2000.

Kristen Simonds, literacy specialist. Kristen, of East Londmeadow, earned her bachelor's degree in Anthropology and History at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a certificate as a Teacher of English to Speakers of Other languages at the International Languar Institute of Massachusetts in Northampton. She has worked as a literacy specialist at HCC's Ludlow Area Adult Learning Center since 2010.

Thomas E. Barrup, instructor of Engineering. Thomas earned his bachelor's degree in Engineering Science from Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute and his master's in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida.

Amy Nicole Ehmann, instructor of Engineering. Amy earned both her bachelor's degree (Astronomy and Astrophysics) and master's degree (Geosciences) at Pennsylvania State University.

Marisol Fontanez, information and reception clerk, Picknelly Adult & Family Education Center. Marisol has more than 15 years' experience working as a human service professional, most recently for the Community Education Project in Holyoke. Born and raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico, she has lived in Holyoke since she was 18 years old.

Sage LaCroix Franetovich, instructor of Biology. Sage earned her bachelor's degree in Natural Resources Management from Rutgers University and a master's in Botany and Plant Pathology from Oregon State University.

Raul Gutierrez, instructor of Spanish. Raul earned his bachelor's degree in Spanish and his master's in Hispanic Studies from the University of Illinois. He was born in Mexico and has lived in Chicago since he was 11. 

Elizabeth Dalton Hayward, instructor, Foundations of Health. Elizabeth has a master's degree in Public Health from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina and a bachelor's in science in nursing from Spalding University. 

Eileen Hocking, assistant dean, Enrollment Management & College Access and Preparation Programs. Eileen comes to HCC after serving as the director of Admissions and the director of Enrollment Management Operations at the University of Saint Joseph, in West Harford, Conn. She grew up in Westfield and earned her bachelor's degree from Westfield State.

Michelle Williams, assistant professor of Psychology. Michelle holds a PhD and a master's degree in Quantitative Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She most recently taught psychology at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn.

Jessica Zepke, instructor of Nursing (associate degree program). Jessica earned her master's degree in Nursing from the University of Harford and her bachelor's in Nursing from Elms College. She has worked as a nurse at Baystate Medical Center and Holyoke Medical Center and has taught nursing at Greenfield Community College and the University of Massachusetts.
