Chris Montemayor Head Coach |
Holyoke native Chris Montemayor enters his second year as Head Coach of Men's Basketball at Holyoke Community College. Montemayor has over 15 years of basketball coaching experience at the professional and high school levels. Prior to Holyoke CC, he coached the Springfield Spirit of the National Women's Basketball League and the Springfield Slamm of the United Basketball Alliance, both high level professional teams. From 1990 through 1997 he worked with the basketball program at West Springfield High School as both an Assistant and Head Boys Basketball Coach.
Montemayor played his college basketball at Westfield State College as a point guard. He made 1 st Team All MASCAC two years. Prior to Westfield State, Montemayor starred for Holyoke High School under Coach Bill Rigali. "My goal is first and foremost to get the student-athlete to come in and do well academically, and putting in place a mechanism for them to succeed"! Regarding basketball, "we'll look to run a motion offense, which will give us a number of shooting options, defensively we'll look to trap and use speed to disrupt the offensive flow!"
Assistant Coaches
Andy Miller joins Coach Montemayor as Assistant Coach of Men's Basketball at HCC. He has been the Assistant Coach of Boys Basketball at St. Mary's High School in Westfield since 2002.
Derek Murphy joins Coach Montemayor as Assistant Coach of Men's Basketball at HCC. He is a firefighter for the City of Holyoke .

Cortijo hopes to bring his knowledge of record keeping to assist the
Cougars in their quest for respectability in the New England Region XXI of the
National Junior College Athletic Asssociation. Prior to taking the post with
the cougars he was serving his country in the Army for the past six years, achieving
the rank of Sergeant. He also worked in athletics administration, organizing
the Holyoke Summer League.He looks forward to working with the teams younger
players on and off the court.
