Whiffleball
Location:
Whiffleball League for the Spring is held in the Bartley
Center Schedule, Teams need a minimum of three players and a maximum
of six players.
- Your
own equipment can be used; including scuffed wiffleballs, and plastic bats
with a maximum diameter of 3 inches.
- On
defense there are two fielders and a pitcher. On offense the line up may include
up to six players. Fielders can be rotated freely throughout the game. Once
a pitcher is relieved, that pitcher cannot pitch again in that game.
- Games
are four innings, three outs per inning. Four balls and three strikes for
walk/strikeout.
- If
a grounder is fielded cleanly (not letting the ball hit the ground once the
fielder has touched it) in front of the singles line (the line right behind
the pitchers mound), then the batter is out.
-
If a grounder goes past the
singles line or a fielder cannot field the ball cleanly in front of the line,
the batter is awarded a single.
- If
a ball is hit in the air past the singles line and is not caught, the batter
is awarded a double.
-
If a ball hits the wall in
the air it is a triple; over the wall, a homerun.
- There
is no running of the bases; all ghost runners.
- All
hits advance base runners the value of the hit. (a double scores a runner
from second; a single with a man at second leads to runners at first and third).
- If
there is a force situation (runner on first, runners on first and second,
runners on first and third, or bases loaded) a double play can occur. This
can be achieved if the fielder cleanly fields a grounder in front of the singles
line and then throws the ball into the strike zone in the air or on the bounce
for the second out. The double play always gets the lead runners out and does
not advance other base runners. If the throw misses the strike zone the lead
runner is out and the batter gets to first base; the other base runners do
not advance.
