The Recreation program which is administered by the HCC Athletics Department and includes Fitness and Wellness. The role of Recreation, Fitness and Wellness is to serve the multi-faceted needs of the College Community by promoting healthy life-style choices and healthy social interactions in an environment that values, embraces, and enriches individual differences.

  • Recreation at HCC provides the individual with the chance to participate in formal, informal and other types of recreational activities. Special events and tournaments occur throughout the year and are very popular with students, faculty and staff. These experiences can be competitive, recreational or instructional in nature. The program offers groups and individuals a chance to compete in a wide range of sports in an atmosphere that stresses sportsmanship, fun, and enjoyment. In addition, there is a “check-out” of many types of sports equipment for individual and group use.
  • HCC Fitness and Wellness is year round and provides many opportunities to students, faculty, staff & the community.  We are committed to offering safe and clean environment with high quality programs, equipment and services. We do this by promoting healthy life-style choices. The Fitness & Wellness Room and the Multipurpose Exercise/Dance room are both housed inside the Bartley Center.  The Fitness & Wellness Room specializes in strength and cardiovascular training programs, and the multipurpose room is for group exercise, dance, tai chi, karate, and other activities. The Bartley Center is a multipurpose facility that includes the fitness center, gymnasium, a classroom, offices, and is adjacent outdoor fields and courts.

Our goal is to create a healthy environment that engages students and the College community in learning and personal development. In the college setting, where demands and deadlines are a daily occurrence, one is given the opportunity for improved health, positive social interaction, stress release, skill development, enhanced educational outcomes and lifetime physical benefits.
