HCC President William Messner has been named a Difference Maker for 2012 by Business West magazine.
The annual awards, which will be presented at a banquet dinner at the Log Cabin in Holyoke March 22, honor people who have demonstrated a significant and long-term commitment toward improving communities and the lives of people in Western Massachusetts. Messner was recognized for creating opportunities--"pathways and access"--to higher education for populations that were previously underserved, particularly Latinos and adult learners.
"The world had changed over the course of the 50 years of the school's history," Messner says in his Difference Maker profile, "and I think many individuals agreed that the next step in the institution's evolution was that we had to make it more accessible to the changing population of Western Mass."
