Men's Soccer Earns Draw in Home Opener
HOLYOKE, MA - HCC's Men's Soccer hosted in-state rival STCC today in their first home game of the 2011 season. It was a back and fourth battle between the Cougars and Rams which eventually ended in a 2-2 tie.
STCC struck first with a goal in the 23rd minute followed by an HCC goal 5 minutes later by freshman midfielder Tyler Church. With two minutes left in the first half, the Rams
re-gained the lead, as the scoreboard would read 2-1 at
half-time. The Cougars would tie the match in the 52nd minute on a goal scored by freshman forward David
Garcia-Ruiz, assisted by sophomore midfielder Carl Dubowski Jr.
HCC goalkeeper Brian Pfister made 12 saves to help the Cougars earn the tie.
To say that this match that featured six yellow cards
(STCC-2 HCC-4) was hard-fought by both sides would be
an under statement. Both the Cougars and the Rams got after it for 110 minutes and the rivalry between STCC and HCC lived up to expectations. The two teams will meet
again on October 19th , this time in Springfield.
The Cougars host Bristol CC this saturday as part of a men's/women's regional double-header. The Lady Cougars get the 1 p.m. start and the men play at 3.
