The Holyoke Community College men's basketball team kicked off their season Friday night on the first of a two-game road trip in Maine. Battling a tough Southern Maine Community College team who improved to 3-0 with the victory, the Cougars first game of the season ended 78-57. Holyoke was lead by Abdul-Halim King's 11 points and Xavier Cruz's 9 boards. Shooting 39.3% (24-61) from the field to Southern Maine's 42.4% (28-66), many stats seems almost indifferent. In their second game of the trip, the Cougars took on the Central Maine Mustangs. Abdul-Halim King again led the team with 12 points, and 7 rebounds while Jovan Jackson dished out 3 assists. Trailing by one 39-38 at the half, the Mustangs came out fired up in the second half causing 20 Holyoke turnovers and holding the Cougars to just 19 second half points. Holyoke's bench contributed 32 points and the Cougars shot 45.5% (22-55) from the field. The Cougars were plagued by turnovers (31) dropping their second game of the season 84-57.
