Tough Adirondack CC Timberwolves Too Much For Cougars
(Holyoke, MA) The Holyoke Community College men's soccer team squared off against Adirondack Community College today at O'Connell Field. Led by 5th year head coach Abel Durojaiye, the Cougars found themselves behind 2-0 fourteen minutes into the game. Adirondack struck first at the 5:15 mark when sophomore striker Samuel Naiwo scored off a free kick outside the penalty box. Minutes later, the Timberwolves' Leo Cunningham pushed a header past HCC keeper Patrick Lawless. With under two minutes left in the half, Dale Fermi of HCC set up teammate Christian Fournier with a shot from the right side of the pitch that found the back of the net to set the halftime score of 2-1.
Despite the second half pressure and intensity the Cougars came out with, they were unable to capitalize again. The Timberwolves had numerous opportunities in the second half, but the 13 save performance of Western Australian keeper Patrick Lawless kept the Cougars within reach of Adirondack until just under 8 minutes to go. Adirondack's Freshman Bryton Chikukwa scored off a cross from teammate Samuel Naiwo and then converted ACC's fourth and final goal with 4:14 to go in the game on an unassisted breakaway.
Holyoke CC falls to 0-1 and will be back in action tomorrow, Monday, September 2 versus Division III Regional opponent Bristol CC at 1:00 PM.
