HCC Accreditation Continued by NEASC

June 29, 2011

Holyoke Community College is pleased to announce that the Commission on
Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and
Colleges (NEASC), the regional accrediting agency for higher education institutions, has
continued HCC's accreditation.

Preparation for reaccreditation began in 2008, and involved a thorough and complete
examination of all aspects of the college's operation. Faculty and staff from all areas of
the college engaged in thoughtful and candid dialogue on both our strengths and
weaknesses, resulting in a self-study document that detailed the process and
conclusions.

The multiyear accreditation process culminated in an October visit by a NEASC team
comprised of senior leaders at colleges from the surrounding New England states,
followed by a formal announcement of the agency's determination, which was received
by HCC President Bill Messner this week. This detailed and remarkably positive
document outlines objectives for HCC's five-year report that are consistent with college
priorities. Accreditation is for a period of ten years. The college will submit an interim
report in fall 2015, and undergo its next comprehensive evaluation in 2020.
Members of the NEASC evaluation team included:

• Dr. Daisy C. DeFilippis (Chair), President, Naugatuck Valley Community College
• Mr. David E. Bull, Dean of Administrative Services, Quinebaug Valley Community
