Col. Reginald Sanders, left, a 1981 graduate of Holyoke Community College, talks to business students April 20 about the qualities that make good leaders, both in the corporate world and in the military. In the photo on the right, Sanders talks to HCC student Silverina Reyes, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and an active reservist at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee.
"Everyone in this room, no matter what you do in life, will have to have these leadership attributes: honor, integrity, courage, loyalty, respect, selfless service, duty," Sanders told students. "Be creative, be innovative, have courage, be resilient, have confidence, have vision. Aim higher than dead center; let your teachers, mentors and coaches be part of your experience; when times get tough, believe in yourself."
Sanders recieved the Distinguished Service Award from Holyoke Community College at Commencement in June 2001.
