HCC Moves to 4-2 With 28 Point Victory Over
Lincoln College of New England
HOLYOKE, MA - Scoring 66 points for the second straight game, the Lady Cougars of Holyoke Community earned their 4th win of 2011-12 with a blowout victory over regional opponent Lincoln College Tuesday night at People's Bank Gymnasium 66-38. Second-year guard Aisha Hernandez (Springfield) led all scorers with 15 points off the bench.
The visiting Wildcats of Lincoln College jumped out to an early 8-2 lead before the Cougars went on a 6 point run of their own to tie the score 8-8 with 12:08 remaining in the first half. HCC then took the lead on a Jenn Perry (West Springfield) basket with 10:50 remaining. Perry had 9 points and 9 rebounds on the night.
The Wildcats pulled even with the Cougars at the 7:05 mark before HCC went on a 7-0 run and would eventually take a 29-16 lead into half-time.
HCC continued to pour it on in second half, increasing their advantage to 21 points with 7:15 left in the contest. The Cougars were able to take advantage of Wildcat turnovers and get out in transition for easy baskets. Sophomore guard Alicia Carter (Easthampton; shown at right) had 4 steals to go along with 13 points and 5 assists. Every Cougar that touched the floor against Lincoln scored at least 2 baskets, contributing to a balanced team effort.
With the win, HCC improves to 4-2 in Region 21 action. They will travel to Groton CT on Saturday, Dec. 3rd for a 1 p.m. game against UCONN Avery Point.
