HCC Bounces Back Against Northern Essex
to Move to 4-1
HOLYOKE, MA - Coming off their first loss of the 2011-12 season Thursday to Manchester CC, the Lady Cougars impressed with a 38 point victory over regional opponent Northern Essex CC. Freshman forward Stephanie Picking (Wales) led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds as Holyoke earned their 4th win in five chances.
The Cougars were dominant early, lighting up the scoreboard and forcing Knight turnovers throughout the first half. HCC shot 54% from the floor in the first half on 12 for 22 shooting compared to five total first half made baskets for Northern Essex. The halftime score was 34-11 in favor of the Cougars.
The second half was more of the same for HCC who opened the half on a 14-2 run. The Cougars grabbed 15 steals this afternoon and limited their own turnovers to just eight. Freshman center Jenn Perry (West Springfield; shown at right) contributed another strong performance, establishing position down-low all game and chipping in with 12 points. Intense defense on the behalf of the Cougars proved to be too much for the Knights as HCC cruised to the easy victory 66-28.
Xiomarie Quinones led all Knight scorers with 10 points.
HCC will travel to Lincoln College of New England for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday evening.
