Lady Tigers Take Women's Hoops MCCAC Championship
HOLYOKE, MA - After cruising through Saturday's semi-final game against Holyoke Community College, Roxbury Community College faced Quinsigamond Community College in Sunday's MCCAC final. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Wyverns 72-48 to earn the 2011-12 MCCAC Championship.
Roxbury jumped out to an early 11-0 lead as they applied full court pressure right out of the gate, forcing Quinsigamond turnovers and scoring points in transition. QCC cut the lead to only six when freshman Brittney Payne hit a big 3-pointer with 4:30 left in the first half. This is as close as the Lady Wyverns would come in the first, as the Lady Tigers entered the break with a 35-16 lead.
The Lady Tigers continued their aggresive play at both ends of the floor in the second half, increasing their lead to 26 points midway through the period. RCC would enjoy a cushion of about 20 points the rest of the way, en route to capturing the 2011-12 MCCAC Championship 72-48.
Roxbury's Siara Lowry led all scorers with 16 pts. Both Lowry and Jenicia Duggins scored 27 pts. each throughout the course of the weekend.
