Second Half Woes Continue Against Williams
HOLYOKE, MA - The Lady Cougars dropped their third straight Tuesday night against the JV Ephs of Williams College. For the third time in as many games, HCC enjoyed at least a share of the lead at half time before stumbling in the second half.
Forcing turnovers and committing only one foul in the first half contributed to the Lady Cougars ability to keep the Ephs offense at bay early. After a fast start, HCC fell behind 12-10 with 9:15 left on the clock. Out of a timeout, sophomore Amanda Grant (Westfield) netted a 3-pointer from the top of the arc, regaining the lead for Holyoke 13-12. With only seconds remaining before the break, a Williams fast break tied the score at 20.
Holyoke was clicking offensively to start the second half with freshman Anastasia Walker (West Springfield) hitting a baseline jumper and freshman Steph Picking (Wales) converting a spin move in the lane on the opening two possesions.
The Lady Cougars would lead for the final time in this game at the 8:40 mark by a score of 38-36. With 3:25 remaining, sophomore Alicia Carter (Easthampton) scored a lay up in the lane, knotting the score at 48. From that point, Williams would go on to out-score HCC 14-4 and take home a 62-52 road win.
Alicia Carter, who also posted a 20+ point game the last time these two teams met, recorded a unique double-double with 25 points and 10 steals.
HCC will travel to Newport, R.I. on Saturday to take on a Navy Prep team that they defeated 64-52 earlier this season at People's Bank Gymnasium.
