FRANKLIN, MA - Coming off their 1-0 home loss to CCRI on Wednesday, the cougars notched their eighth victory of the season on Saturday afternoon with three second half goals and a strong defensive performance. Starting for her first time in the net, freshman goalkeeper Kassidy Kindness (Chicopee) earned her first shutout of the season as HCC blanked Dean.
At halftime, with the scoreboard reading 0-0, 8th year head coach Rob Galazka seemed to get his team motivated. An inspired Cougar team came out hot in the second half scoring two goals in the first eleven minutes. Freshman defender/midfielder Amy Hewins (Westfield) scored her first goal of the year in the 51st minute to give the Cougars the 1-0 lead. Hewins' goal was assisted by freshman defender/midfielder Jenn Galindo (Chicopee) who would add a goal of her own five minutes later to double the advantage. Galindo's goal was assisted by sophomore forward/midfielder Amanda Grant (Westfield) who leads the team in total points thus far. Grant also netted the final goal of the match in the 86th minute to ensure the victory, assisted by Jenn Galindo (shown above; photo by Matt Patenaude).
Behind Galindo's four points and a strong overall performance from sophomore defender Amanda Cummings (Agawam), the Cougars earned their eigth victory at about the midway point of the season. HCC stands at 8-1 overall, 4-0 in Region 21 play and 2nd in the National NJCAA Division III poll.
The Cougars are on the road Wednesday as they visit Region 21 opponent Manchester Community College for a 4 p.m. match. HCC defeated MCC 1-0 in the first meeting earlier this season at O'Connell Field.
