HCC Women's Soccer gets fourth win with 1-0 victory
over Manchester Community College.

HOLYOKE, MA - The Cougars defeated Manchester Community College 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in their 2011 home opener.

In the 15th minute after a Manchester CC penalty, the Cougars were awarded a free kick and would take full advantage of the opportunity.  Alicia Carter lined up to take the kick but dropped it off to forward/midfielder Amanda Grant (at right) who then netted what would be the only goal of the match for either side.

HCC's defense then set out on a mission to protect the early lead.  Manchester CC seemed unable to control posession against the Cougars' agressive defense.  Coach Galazka mentioned after the game that he was "very impressed with today's defensive effort".  Amanda Cummings, Regan Teixeira, Amy Hewins, Jenn Galindo, Jenna Seymour and Laura Masciotra all played huge roles in preserving the 1-0 lead.

Freshman goalkeeper Malynda Riopelle made two saves for the Cougars en route to her first career shutout.

The Cougars visit Massasoit Community College on Saturday at 3 p.m.
