Lady Cougars Defeat Massasoit CC, Move to 7-0 in Regional Play
HOLYOKE, MA - HCC remains perfect in Region 21 play after defeating Massasoit CC earlier this afternoon. Freshman forward/midfielder Ana Martineau (Chicopee) notched the first goal of her HCC career on a ball from freshman defender Regan Teixeira (Northampton) who earned her first Cougar assist on the play.
Martineau's goal in the 35th minute gave the Cougars a 1-0 advantage that they would take into halftime as goalkeeper Malynda Riopelle (Springfield) was perfect in the net. HCC came out in the second half with freshman Caitlin Silver (Florence) now in goal and wasted no time in adding to their lead. Midfielder Jenna Seymour (Northampton) headed home an Amanda Grant (Westfield) corner kick in the 49th minute. The header was Seymour's 2nd goal of the season and Grant's team high 8th assist. The Cougars would hold on the 2-0 lead behind strong play from the center midfield position and take the victory over the Warriors, improving to 7-0 against regional competition.
The Lady Cougars look for a strong finish to the regular season on Wednesday when they host in-state rival Springfield Technical CC at 4 p.m.
HCC's O'Connell Field will be the site of this year's Women's Soccer New England Regional Tournament. The tournament will begin Saturday, October 22 with semi-final action followed by finals on Sunday.
