Cougars Shutout Warriors 6-0
BROCKTON, MA - Five different players contributed to the scoring Saturday against Massasoit Community College as the Cougars grabbed their fifth win of the still young 2011 season.
Wasting no time, HCC jumped out to the early 1-0 lead with a goal by sophomore forward Amanda Grant (assisted by sophomore forward Alicia Carter) in the 3rd minute of the match. The score would remain 1-0 until the second half when the Cougars would tack on five more goals en route to the 6-0 victory.
The five second half goals would come in a 29 minute span. Alicia Carter (shown above; photo by Matt Patenaude) started the second half scoring with goals in the 51st and 60th minutes, assisted by sophomore midfielder Jenna Seymour and freshman defender/midfielder Jenn Galindo respectively. Three minutes after Carter's second goal of the match, freshman midfielder Laura Masciotra netted a goal of her own (assisted by Amanda Grant). The final two goals would come from sophomore midfielder Aubrey Romani (assisted by Jenn Galindo) and sophomore defender Amanda Cummings (assisted by Alicia Carter).
The Warriors were held scoreless by Cougar goalkeepers Malynda Riopelle and Kassidy Kindness who split time in the net and each made one save. Massasoit CC stopped 14 Holyoke CC shots but even 14 saves proved to be not enough as the Cougars continued their outstanding play. Alicia Carter and freshman forward Ana Martineau both put in excellent games for the now 5-0 (2-0 in Division III Region XXI play) Cougars.
The Cougars make the short trip to Springfield, MA on Wednesday the 21st to take on STCC at 4 p.m.
