Callini First Team All-American; 6 Named All-New England

(Holyoke, MA)  After the Holyoke Community College women's soccer team captured the 2013 women's soccer third place ranking, the best finish ever in school history and first final four appearance, several ladies received individual recognition as expected.

Congratulations go out to six Cougars who have been named to the 2013 All New England team.  The team's Most Valuable Player Nikki Callini has also been named to the eleven person First Team All American squad.

First year midfielder Nikki Callini was named as a first team All American after a tremendous freshman year with the Cougars and was also selected to the All New England team.  Along with being chosen as HCC's MVP for the 2013 season, Callini also garnered All Tournament team honors in the National Elite Eight competition.  Nikki, a defensive center midfielder, led HCC in both goals (22) and points (55), while finishing with a number five ranking in both of these categories nationally.  She was a large part of the Lady Cougars tremendously successful season and is on her way to rewriting the women's soccer record book.

Sophomore transfer and co-captain Devon Wolfenden was also selected to the All New England team and received All Tournament Team honors at the National Elite Eight.  As a defensive center midfielder, Devon had a brilliant year controlling the pace of games all season long for the Lady Cougars.

Freshman attacking midfielder Jess Teodore was also named to the First Team All New England team.  Jess led the Cougars with 17 assists, a total that ranked Jess at the finale of the season as third in the nation.  Jess was one of the most dynamic offensive players not just for the Cougars but  in Division III NJCAA all season.

Freshman center back Tina Mullin was selected All New England as the anchor of the Cougars' stellar defense.  Tina stifled opposing attackers time after time, and although statistically there are not direct numbers to show her contributions, Mullin was a key factor in the Cougars success this season.

Sophomore captain defender/midfielder Kristy Cominoli was the fifth Cougar to be named to the First Team All New England squad.  Kristy was a much of a utility player as the Cougars could have, stepping up as a seasoned veteran to play several positions throughout the season to best aid the Cougars success.  Over the last two seasons, Cominoli has accumulated 26 points, 8 goals, and 10 assists in 43 games played.  These numbers have enabled Kristy to be placed on the All Time Scoring leaders for HCC.

Sophomore forward Tai Lopez was also named All New England (second team).  The sniper buried 16 goals this season wreaking havoc on opposing defenses all year.  Lopez has accumulated 74 points, 32 goals, and 10 assists in 45 games over the past two seasons.  She currently sits fifth all time in career points and is the co-holder of the school record for goals in a game (5 goals).  Tai has her name all over the record book for her offensive output as a Cougar in the past two seasons.

Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Olson earned the Team Player Award, an award that goes to "an individual who perfectly exemplifies what it means to be a Lady Cougar."  Amanda carried herself with the highest of class all season long, as did all the Lady Cougars, and was stellar in goal earning 10 shutouts this season.  Amanda was also tremendous helping her team earn victories by way of the dreaded penalty kick shootouts where she was consistently brilliant in making several game winning saves.

Congratulations to all of these ladies on these spectacular honors and congratulations to every single member of the 2013 team on their accomplishments.   New England and District champions while finishing in the highest ranking (3rd in the nation) takes tremendous team effort, dedication, and talent.
