Title: Author / Educator
"As a student, professor and author, I have viewed the college experience from many perspectives. I endowed the Marieb Chair for Teaching Excellence because I wanted to recognize outstanding HCC professors and give them a way to do something in their field that they might not be able to do otherwise. I presently fund five scholarships, and add an additional one each year. I personally know what it's like to be a struggling student and I want others to know that there is someone out there who believes in them. That's why my scholarships are for women returning through HCC's New Directions, New Careers program. My giving hasn't taken away from me, it's given back to me."
Elaine Marieb is a professor emeritus at Holyoke Community College. The noted author of more than a dozen Anatomy and Physiology textbooks used by more than 1,000 colleges and universities, her distinguished career in the sciences spans four decades.
