Favorite class/teacher:

That's so hard. There are so many, it's ridiculous. I think everybody here is pretty awesome, but if I had to pick a favorite it would probably be Prof. Diane  Beers because I like the way she instructs history.I've taken three Learning Communities with Prof. Beers and Deb Fariman: American on Trial, A Force More Powerful, and I'm currently taking Harlem Renaissance. Those classes are politically charged.I have never taken a class in history where it has provoked so many thoughts and wanted me to keep diving into it and going further and further.

Most meaningful encounter at HCC:

Irma Medina, coordinator of the Pathways Program. Irma's really, really awesome. I've had a really hard life. I kind of brought that to Irma's attention. She's always kept me in line and worked with me and kept me moving forward and never back. She's really a very powerful driving force.

Why does education matter to you?

For me, education is everything. It's my ticket out of even just living in the neighborhood I'm living in. It's my ticket everywhere. My mother always told me, get your education. Go as far as you can educationally, because that is ultimately going to take you wherever you want to go.

What is your favorite thing about HCC?

The environment, really. The community. It's really supportive here and there's always somebody willing to help if there's a problem. It's always, how can we help you get through this and make this so it's going to work for you. If I run into brick walls, there's somebody with their hand out, here, let me help you get over this hurdle.

Graduation date:

June 1, 2013

Where are you now?

At Springfield College where I plan to double-major in psychology and history. I lost my parents when I was younger so I really want to work with children, maybe as a counselor.
