Transition to College & Careers (TCC) is a free non-credit program offered both days and evenings that helps adult students 18+ prepare for college and identify a career path. The program includes intensive academic preparation in English reading and writing, math, study strategies and computers in a college context. We offer college navigation, career advising, and tutoring in an environment conducive to learning.
A collaboration between the Community Education Project (CEP) and Holyoke Community College (HCC), TCC offers a supportive learning community and:
A separate class, TCC Prep, is offered to learners who need additional help before beginning the TCC program. TCC welcomes all adult students to apply. Another class, TCC Intensive, is offered to learners who are able to devote more hours per week to the class. Upon completion of this course, students may earn up to 3 college credits through a challenge exam.
Classes meet both on the HCC campus and at the Picknelly Adult and Family Education Center (PAFEC), located at 206 Maple Street in Holyoke.
Classes run September to December, January to May, and July to August. Students are encouraged, however, to apply to the program early to secure a class seat.
Days: Mon., Wed., Fri. 9:15am-1:15pm classes on the HCC campus OR Tues. through Fri. 9:15am-1:15pm classes on the HCC campus
Evenings: Tues. & Thurs. 5:30-8:30pm classes at PAFEC
Transportation is available via HCC's free shuttle service, La Guagua. All Holyoke buses go to the Transportation Center located next to the PAFEC building. There is also garage parking and free on-street parking after 5PM.
Application to TCC consists of a phone interview and an in-person interview, followed by an assessment of your reading, writing, and math skills, and an Accuplacer test. Acceptance is based on your academic skills, motivation, level of commitment, and family circumstances that permit you to meet attendance requirements. There is no fee to apply and the program is free for all accepted students.
