What Information Do You Need When Filling Out the FAFSA?
You should have the following information and documents with you as you fill out the FAFSA.
Here's a checklist!
❏ We strongly encourage students (and parents, if applicable) to apply for an FSA ID prior to the workshop you plan on attending. The FSA ID is your key to logging in to the FAFSA and signing the application. Once created, you should bring your FSA ID and password (your parent should bring his/hers as well) to the workshop. Please click here for information on obtaining an FSA ID.
❏ Your Social Security number and and your parent's Social Security number if you are providing parental information.
❏ Your Alien Registration number if you are not a U.S. citizen
❏ Federal tax information or tax returns including IRS W-2 information, for yourself (and
spouse, if you are married), and for your parents if you are providing parental information.
• If you have not yet filed an income tax return, complete and submit the FAFSA using
estimated tax information.
• The 2016-2017 FAFSA and the 2017-2018 FAFSA will both use 2015 tax year information.
❏ Records of untaxed income, such as child support received, interest income, and veterans' non-education benefits, for yourself (and spouse, if you are married), and for your parents if you are providing parental information.
❏ Information on cash; savings and checking account balances; investments, including rental
property; and business and farm assets for yourself (and spouse, if you are married), and for your parents if you are providing parental information.
HCC's Financial Aid Office encourages those students who are providing parental information to be accompanied by at least one parent.
