Día de los Muertos/Day of the Dead Celebration

DATE: Wednesday, November 2, 2022

TIME: 11:00 a.m.

El Centro and the Latinx Empowerment Association will be building a Day of the Dead altar (ofrenda). Our ofrenda will be located outside of El Centro (CC 248).

We would like to remind the HCC community that Day of the Dead is not related nor an alternative to Halloween. This Mexican cultural practice is meant to remember/celebrate loved ones who have passed. The belief is that their spirits are forever present. Dia de los Muertos traces its earliest roots to the Aztec people, in what we now know as Central Mexico.

Our HCC ofrenda is designed as a place to celebrate indigenous, Mexican, and Latinx practices. If you wish to participate and honor someone you have lost, please bring photographs of loved ones that have passed on. We will be placing the photographs in the ofrenda. We will also have "pan de muerto" (bread traditionally baked in Mexico during the weeks leading up to the Día de los Muertos). All are welcome to take part in this celebration.
