'She Works in STEM'

This is the second event for the Pioneer Valley Women in STEM Network

Students from HCC at the inaugural Pioneer Valley Women in STEM network event in October.

Holyoke Community College and the other three community colleges in western Mass. are co-sponsoring a free networking event for current and future female leaders in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Registration is now open for the "She Works in STEM" event Wed., March 27, from 5-8 p.m. at the UMass Center at Springfield in Tower Square.

The event is sponsored jointly by the STEM Starter Academies at HCC, Springfield Technical, Berkshire and Greenfield community colleges, along with the Society of Women Engineers affiliate at STCC.

This will be the second event for the fledgling Pioneer Valley Women in STEM Network, which seeks to bring together female professionals, community college women in STEM majors and high school-aged girls considering STEM careers.

Featured speakers at the March 27 event include Kristin Carlson, co-owner and president of Peerless Precision Manufacturing in Westfield, and Prasha Sarwate Dutra, host of the "Her STEM Story" website and podcast.

At the first Pioneer Valley Women in STEM event in October, Sarwate Dutra moderated a panel discussion that she recorded for her podcast. The panel included two HCC STEM alumni: Michelle Rami '17, now an engineering student at Western New England University; and Carla Velez Garcia '10, a science teacher at Van Sickle Middle School in Springfield.
