Veterans Day Event

DATE: Wednesday, November 8, 2017

TIME: 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

LOCATION: PeoplesBank Conference Room, HCC Kittredge Center (301/303)

Bennett Walsh, superintendent of the Holyoke Soldiers' Home and a retired U.S. Marine Corps lieutenant colonel, will be one of the keynote speakers at a Veterans Day celebration at Holyoke Community College on Wed., Nov. 8.

The Veterans Day event will be held from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the PeoplesBank Conference Room (Room 301/303) of the HCC Kittredge Center for Business and Workforce Development, 303 Homestead Ave., Holyoke.

The event is open to the public and area veterans are encouraged to attend.

Other speakers include retired U.S. Army veteran Jesus Pereira, director of Veterans Services for the City of Holyoke, and HCC student Thomas Kim of Westfield, a former U.S. Army medic who served with the 82nd Airborne in Iraq.

The theme of this year's Veterans Day event is "Strength in Community."

HCC student trustee Jonathan Jasmin, vice president of the HCC Military Club and a member of the National Guard, will introduce the R.E.D. Fridays campaign, a national effort that encourages people to wear red on Fridays to "remember everyone deployed" overseas.

HCC alumnus Jonathan Mendez '17 will sing the National Anthem.

A light lunch will be served following the speeches.
