Cougars Defeat Regional Foe
(Holyoke, MA) - The Cougars soccer team played their 2019 home opener on Saturday afternoon, defeating regional competitor Mass Bay CC. Holyoke looked sharp playing for the first time this year at O'Connell field, earning a 3-2 victory over a tough opponent.
Holyoke was led by freshman Musa Jiana (Chicopee, MA / Chicopee HS), who scored a pair of goals in the victory. Jiana converted a penalty kick for his first tally and later scored the game winning third Cougar goal with the match knotted at 2-2. Sophomore Joseph Evborokhai (Chicopee, MA / Holyoke HS), who leads the team in scoring, had Holyoke's first goal. Freshman defender Brandon Carmona (East Longmeadow, MA / Central HS) had a pair of assists to go along with an outstanding overall performance in the game.
The Cougars improve to .500 with a 2-2-0 overall and regional record. They will play their next home game on Saturday, September 21 at 3pm against Bristol CC. The game is the second of a Holyoke versus Bristol soccer doubleheader on Saturday with the women's team playing at 1pm. Let's go Cougars!
