(Randolph Center, VT) - Men's soccer opened their season with a decisive 4-0 shutout victory over non-NJCAA opponent Vermont Technical College on Thursday evening. The Cougars scored two goals in each half on their way to the road win.
Michael Grochowski (Westfield, MA / Westfield HS) put the Cougars on the board, converting a penalty kick in the 33rd minute, before Dantae Bates (East Longmeadow, MA / East Longmeadow HS) made the score 2-0 just one minute later. Adam Strycharz (Westfield, MA / Westfield HS) continued the offensive output, scoring both of Holyoke's second-half goals. Freshman goalkeeper Benjamin Giroux (East Longmeadow, MA / East Longmeadow HS) made four saves to earn the shutout in his first collegiate game.
The season opener will be Holyoke's only non-NJCAA game of the season with all remaining games on the schedule coming against regional (New England) NJCAA opponents. The Cougars will play two more road games before playing their home opener on Saturday, September 24th at 1pm against Quincy College. Let's go Cougars!
