D.Viel WSOC

(Holyoke, MA) - Women's soccer secured their second straight shutout on Wednesday afternoon, earning a well deserved 0-0 tie against regional opponent CC of Rhode Island. Playing with a drastically undermanned squad, the Lady Cougars put forth an admirable effort to earn the clean sheet and the draw. Holyoke has officially qualified for the New England Championship Tournament that will be played on October 29th and 30th.

Goalkeeper Donna Viel (Woronoco, MA / Gateway Regional HS) was extremely sharp in net, making 12 saves to earn her and the team's second shutout of the season. Defenders Grace Downer (Easthampton, MA / Easthampton HS) and Carinéh Santana (Holyoke, MA / Renaissance HS) were outstanding, leading a strong defensive effort displayed by the entire Cougars team.

Women's soccer is 3-4-1 in the region and 3-7-1 overall. They close out the regular season with a pair of 1pm home games this weekend. Holyoke hosts Bunker Hill CC on Saturday, October 22nd and welcomes Bristol CC on Sunday, October 23rd. Let's go Cougars!
