Women’s Soccer Season Preview
Lady Cougars Set to Start Campaign
The Lady Cougars soccer team will kick off the 2022 season hosting the Cougar Classic on Labor Day weekend. Holyoke has invited four teams to compete in the weekend's event, with a pair of games being played each day.
The Cougars have an optimistic outlook heading into the 2022 season. The relatively young, yet talented, group will be led by Carinèh Santana (Holyoke, MA / Renaissance HS), the lone returner from last year's team. Santana was outstanding for Holyoke in 2021 and looks to carry her strong play into this season. The freshmen group includes two high school All-Western Mass selections, Makayla Santos (South Deerfield, MA / Frontier Regional HS) and Christina Pereira (Palmer, MA / Pathfinder Regional HS). Each is a highly skilled players who can surely make an impact in a Cougar uniform.
The Lady Cougars, winners of eight consecutive New England championships prior to last season, fell short of the regional championship in 2021, losing 1-0 in the title game.
Holyoke will open their season hosting Fashion Institute of Technology (NY) during the Cougar Classic at 1pm on Saturday, September 3rd. That game will be followed by Anne Arundel CC (MD) squaring off against Suffolk County CC (NY) at 3:30pm. The Lady Cougars will play Anne Arundel CC at 11am on Sunday, September 4th before a 1:30pm game between Fashion Institute of Technology and Southern Maine CC (ME). Let's go Cougars!
