Fall and Winter Sports Seasons Moved to Spring 2021

DATE: Wednesday, August 12, 2020

NJCAA Postpones Majority of 2020 Seasons Due to COVID-19

Volleyball

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) made its official announcement in July regarding fall and winter 2020 athletics. Due to COVID-19 concerns, the NJCAA has moved almost all sports seasons to spring semester of 2021. All sports involving physical contact between athletes have been moved while non-contact sports such as cross country and tennis remain in place for fall 2020. Additionally, winter sports will have their seasons begin later than usual, starting in January 2021 as opposed to a late fall start. The NJCAA has also put several guidelines into effect so that all athletic participants and spectators can remain as safe as possible from COVID-19 during competition.

HCC normally has four teams competing in the fall season, three of which are affected by the move. Women's and men's soccer, along with women's volleyball, will compete in 2021 while cross country will be the lone sport competing in fall 2020. HCC will not host the NJCAA Cross Country Championships this year. Women's volleyball will begin in January while the soccer teams begin play in mid-March. HCC's two winter teams, women's and men's basketball, will have a January 2021 start. Let's go Cougars!
