Men’s Basketball Wins Regional Opener
Cougars Triumphant at Home
(Holyoke, MA) - Men's basketball was victorious on Monday afternoon, defeating fellow New England (Region XXI) opponent Massasoit CC 101-85. The Cougars relied on balanced scoring and strong rebounding on their way to the win. Six Holyoke players reached double digits in points in the contest and the Cougars outrebounded their opposition by more than 2-to-1.
Jaquan Rogers (Springfield, MA / Sabis HS) led the charge for Holyoke, scoring 18 points to go along with eight assists and six rebounds. Moashaun Alvarado (Springfield, MA / Sci-Tech HS) and Michael Castillo (Northampton, MA / Northampton HS) each registered a double-double in the win. Alvarado tallied 16 points to go along with 15 rebounds while Castillo scored 15 points and brought down ten rebounds. Sam Monette (Springfield, MA / Hampden Charter HS) scored 13 points while shooting 5-for-5 from the free throw line. Cequan Johnson (Springfield, MA / Sci-Tech HS) and Kawane Jackson (Springfield, MA / Sabis HS) each scored 11 points.
Holyoke has a 1-0-0 regional record and a 1-1-0 overall record. They will play their next three games on the road before returning to the friendly confines of the Bartley Center on November 23rd to square off against Roxbury CC at 3pm. Let's go Cougars!
