Track Team in Starting Blocks for 2018 Season

Moriarty HCC track & field

Track & field returned to HCC as a varsity sport in the spring of 2017 after a hiatus of more than 20 years. The comeback season proved to be a successful one. The 2017 Cougars team consisted of a pair of athletes, both throwers, who competed in all of the team's meets. Javelin thrower James Moriarty (South Hadley, MA / South Hadley HS) qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament where he finished in eighth place in the javelin throw event.

The Cougars track & field team has grown nicely and at the start of the 2018 season will have seven athletes competing under the guidance of second year head coaches Nick Davis and Luke Archambault. Led by returning national tournament medalist Moriarty, the 2018 team will look to build off of last year's success. Joining Moriarty to compete this spring are six freshman, including four members of the HCC men's soccer team. Andre Shepard (Amherst, MA / Amherst Regional HS), Shyam Tewani Mupompa (Amherst, MA / Amherst Regional HS), and Logan Bridgman (Southampton, MA / Hampshire Regional HS) will compete primarily in running and jumping events and Jordan Rubeck (Easthampton, MA / Hampshire Regional HS) will throw shot put and discus.

The Cougars will get their season underway this Saturday, April 7th at the American International College Invitational, beginning at 10am. All seven members of the team are expected to compete at the opening meet at AIC. Let's go Cougars!
