Arranged, Proposed, Overruled!
Fall production a combination of three one-act plays
For its fall 2026 production, the HCC Theater Department will present not one, not two, but three one-act plays, each directed by a different theater alum.
“Arranged, Proposed, Overruled!” will run Nov. 19-21, with performances at 7:30 p.m. each night in the Leslie Phillips Theater with an additional matinee show at 2 p.m. on Nov. 21.
The Friday, Nov. 20, performance will be ASL-interpreted.
“Arranged, Proposed, Overruled!” is a combined production of The Proposal, by Anton Chekhov (directed by Denise Boutin '77); A Marriage has been Arranged, by Alfred Sutro (directed by Michael Pray '09); and Overruled, by George Bernard Shaw (directed by Gabriel CiFuentes ‘18.)
Synopses:
The Proposal: In provincial Russia, a gentleman neighbor comes calling to propose, if only a raft of neighborly squabbles can be overcome.
A Marriage has been Arranged: Can an unlikely pairing make a love match in spite of their best efforts to the contrary?
Overruled: Two married couples defy all notions of conventional marriage in an absurd comedy.
All three plays come from the turn of 20th century Europe (The Proposal: 1890, A Marriage has been Arranged: 1904, Overruled 1912). Each, in its own way, upends traditional notions of marriage to great comedic effect in thought-provoking ways.
This show is appropriate for audience members 13 years of age and older.
