2022 Commencement

We can't wait to celebrate our 75th annual Commencement. Following are important details to note.

WHEN

June 4, 2022 at 10 a.m.

WHERE

MassMutual Center
1277 Main Street
Springfield, Massachusetts 01103

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

In accordance with current city/state regulations, Commencement attendees will not be required to submit proof of vaccination or wear masks; however, both are strongly encouraged.

  • Masks and hand sanitizer will be available for guests seeking either or both.
  • Social distancing is encouraged and attendees' desire to socially distance themselves from other guests should be respected. The MassMutual Center arena is an 8,000-seat venue, allowing ample space for our attendees to feel comfortable as they enjoy the day. In addition, there will be greater spacing between graduates seated on the floor.
  • Rapid test kits are available to all graduates (two per student) coming to campus for Cap & Gown Pick-up on Friday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. We encourage students to take these kits and to test prior to coming to MassMutual on the day of Commencement.
PARKING

Please visit the MassMutual website for their recommendations on parking, and be sure to anticipate more traffic due to construction and the Springfield Pride Parade, which will take place on the same day.

a letter from our president

We are now just six weeks away from our Commencement celebration and I am pleased to share additional details regarding this year's ceremony, set for Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

As shared with you previously, for the first time since 2019, we are able to celebrate this important moment for our students in person at the MassMutual Center in Springfield. My thanks to the College Affairs Committee for gathering input from our community and for conducting a thorough assessment of options for this year's ceremony. I also greatly appreciate your feedback during Town Halls held earlier this month. Being able to gather in person will be a thrill for many throughout our community, and at the same time, we know that we will do so amid this latest phase of the pandemic. Please carefully review the following details to help us continue to keep our community healthy:

  • Masks and COVID-19 vaccinations are strongly encouraged. HCC's vaccination policies for employees and students apply to our campus facilities. As one-time guests to this off-site venue, and in accordance with current city/state regulations, Commencement attendees will not be required to submit proof of vaccination or wear masks; however, both are strongly encouraged.
  • A live stream of the ceremony is available, enabling anyone uncomfortable attending or not feeling well to stay home and still celebrate.
  • Rapid test kits are available to all graduates (two per student) coming to campus for Cap & Gown Pick-up on Friday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. We are encouraging students to take advantage of this opportunity and to test prior to Commencement.

I am truly thrilled to be able to deliver a day our students deserve and have worked so hard for. But as with every decision made during this fluid time, if future conditions warrant changes in our direction, we will be flexible. To remain up-to-date on Commencement, please regularly visit this page. Here, you will find a growing list of FAQs, the live stream, details regarding how we plan to acknowledge the classes of 2021 and 2020, and more.
