Culinary & Hospitality/ESOL

MassSTEP logoGet the skills and certifications you need to begin a career in the culinary/hospitality sector! Students earn ServSafe Food Handler and Manager, OSHA10, and other workplace certificates, in addition to knife skills and culinary fundamentals.

This program is designed for people learning English who are at an intermediate level, and English skill instruction is built into the program to help you succeed.

180-hour training program leading to jobs like:

  • Food preparer
  • Line cook
  • Server
  • Bartender
  • Host/hostess
  • Hotel worker
requirements

Open to adult residents of Massachusetts who are learning English. We're looking for students who are ready to enter employment in culinary/hospitality at the conclusion of the program, and are ready to actively participate in an exciting, hands-on experience! For sessions held in Springfield, a CORI background check will be required.

We are currently working with over two dozen local employers eager to hire qualified graduates!

certificates earned

ServSafe for Managers and Food Handlers; ServSafe Alcohol (for safe service); OSHA-10 for workplace safety; and Guest Service Gold© for customer service excellence. Includes 90 hours of English language/career preparation instruction.

where & when

Classes are offered twice per year: at Putnam Vocational High School in Springfield (winter/spring) and the HCC MGM Culinary Arts Institute (summer).
