Actions: Enable HCC Leadership to Consider Implications
- Summarize the Opportunity and Your Proposed Project Elements
- Get approval from your supervisor, then submit the Summary to the Grants Office, then:
- Department chairs/supervisors/division leaders must approve projects
- Cabinet will review your summary and approve external funding proposals.
- The Grants Office will consult about plans, steward institutional review, and facilitate communication among parties as necessary to address questions and concerns.
HCC Cabinet/Leadership Review: Draft Criteria
- Alignment: strategic plan, institutional priorities
- Best Foot Forward for opportunity: competition with other/multiple approaches? (traffic mgmt)
- Net Potential Enhancement/Benefit: given institutional implications/administrative load, worthwhile?
- Sustainability: what are post-funding ramifications for staffing, programming, participants, etc?
All Systems Go!
Upon "greenlighting" from a supervisor and HCC, proposal preparation may begin
- Review "Grants Roles and Responsibilities" Document
- Download and carefully review application instructions, forms, etc.
- Begin collecting support materials, partner commitments, cost estimates
- Begin to draft narrative text to be formatted for application guidelines or for insertion into online forms
- Begin to draft budget spreadsheets (templates here can be useful even if different forms are required)
- Create a Google Folder in which you can store these, and share the folder with Grants Office staff when you are ready for assistance

- Complete the Human Resources Department "Staffing Proposal Form" at (LINK)
IF NO, PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEP!
Five (5) Days Before Deadline

- Create a Draft Budget, Including
- Direct Material/Program Expenses
- Direct Staffing Expenses (Including Salaries/Wages and Fringe Benefits - Grants Office can advise)
- Indirect Costs (if allowed - Grants Office can advise)
- In-kind budget commitments (time/salaries/wages/materials)
- Share Budget with the Business Office and the Grants Office
Two (2) Days Before Deadline
Actions
- Share your narrative, budget, and all accompanying attachment materials with the Grants Office
- Identify any questions, concerns, gaps
